Yes, at first glance you gotta ask yourself the question – what in the heck is the author talking about – as western style fly fishing is generally reserved for western rivers and lakes sitting in the midst of expansive views and panorama’s.  We all love these settings and it no doubt is one of my favorite fisheries to pursue floating the rivers of the west for trout. Hood Canal Sea Run Cutthroat

My backyard fishery and home waters of Hood Canal truly is as a western style fly fishing adventure in a saltwater environment with wild trout to boot.  The Olympic Mountain range towers above and creates a stunning backdrop for this unique western saltwater trout fishery.

Hood Canal sits at the base of the stunning Olympic Mountain range and is to a diverse range of wildlife – sea ducks, birds, bald eagles, wild sea run cutthroat, salmon and the list goes on and on – it’s a small town Alaskan experience without all the travel! Hood Canal sits roughly 20 miles from Seattle, Washington.

Well, true story this is wild trout country at its finest – streamer fishing in a near shore environment where often times the trout only live in less than a foot of water in our winter months feeding on sculpin, shrimp and small baitfish.  In our winter months January – May the algae dissipates in the water and creates gin clear saltwater conditions.  Often times visual takes and sight fishing opportunities take place as aggressive Sea Run Cutthroat pounce of stripped streamer patterns.

Fjord Fly Fishing is a year round guide service on Hood Canal, offering guided boat fly fishing adventures.  I guide out of a 25 ft. custom designed aluminum sport fishing vessel with a sheltered cabin.  This nice cabin provides protection while running from spot to spot throughout Hood Canal and keeps anglers comfortable. The boat provides front and rear casting platforms so two anglers can fish at a time comfortably.

We guide anglers year round and winter is one of the best opportunities for anglers to be on the water in Hood Canal.  Reach out to us to book a trip – call or text  Chad at 509-591-2029
